More about Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine
Acupuncture is a key part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). It uses very fine needles to help move and improve the flow of Qi throughout the body. The needles are often inserted into meridians. When acupuncture is used for soft tissue work, the needles may be placed in different, supporting points as well.
Traditional Chinese Medicine has been around for approximately 3500 years! It involves the use of cupping, acupuncture, herbal medicine and massage. In TCM, it is believed that an imbalance or disharmony of Qi or energies can be the cause.
The acupuncture needles themselves are very fine; you can fit up to 40 into an average hypodermic needle! They are sterile and single use.
Cupping has increased in popularity in recent years. It is where suction is created, often through either silicone or glass cups. The suction helps bring blood flow to the affected areas, as well as help loosen fascial restrictions and muscle tightness.
